Format
PNG keeps every pixel as it is.
PNG is lossless: the image is kept exactly as the JPG holds it, in a larger file; converting can't bring back detail the JPG's compression took away. Photos are turned upright as the camera took them, and the camera's data (date, place, device) isn't kept in the new files. For other formats, use the Image Format Converter.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- Drop your JPG photos on the page or choose them, as many as you like.
- Keep PNG, or pick WebP.
- Download each PNG, or all of them in a ZIP archive.
Questions
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. PNG is lossless, so nothing more is lost, but the detail the JPG's compression already took away can't come back. The PNG is usually larger.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No, a JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has the same background as the photo. Editing the background out is a separate step in an image editor.
Why convert JPG to PNG then?
To edit an image again and again without it losing more quality each time it's saved, or for a program or form that only accepts PNG.
What about the photo's location and camera data?
Photos are turned upright as the camera took them, and their data (date, place, device) isn't kept in the PNG.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. They're converted by your browser, on your device.
