Video to GIF
Make an animated GIF from a part of a video, in your browser
Drop a video here
Or choose one: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or M4V; it's made into a GIF in your browser and never uploaded
The frames are read by your browser's own video decoder and made into a GIF by gifenc, each frame with its own 256 colours. AVI, FLV and WMV aren't read.
How to make a GIF from a video
- Drop a video on the page or choose it: MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV or M4V.
- Pick the part to keep, up to 30 seconds, on the slider or by typing its start and end.
- Choose the GIF's width and frame rate, and whether it loops.
- Make the GIF, watch it, and download it.
Questions
How can I make the GIF smaller?
Choose a smaller width, a lower frame rate or a shorter part: a GIF stores every frame as a picture, so all three count.
Why up to 30 seconds?
GIFs grow very large quickly; for a longer clip, a video file (MP4) is far smaller and plays everywhere.
What about the colors?
Each frame gets its own 256 colors, the most a GIF can hold, so most videos look close to the original.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The GIF is made by your browser, on your device. AVI, FLV and WMV can't be read.
